Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a primary ergonomic risk for sewing workers in the garment industry due to non-ergonomic working postures and repetitive movements. Preliminary studies at CV. X Karanganyar and national data (indicating that 40.5% of work-related illnesses are associated with MSDs) underscore the urgency of this research. The objective of this study is to analyze the relationship between work posture (independent variable) and the Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) (dependent variable) through Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA) observations and the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire involving 90 respondents at CV. X Karanganyar (November–December 2025). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods (Chi-Square, α=0.05). The results show that 40.0% of work postures were low risk, 23.3% acceptable, 30.0% medium risk, and 6.7% very high risk. Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) were reported as 55.6% (low), 38.9% (medium), and 5.6% (high). Bivariate analysis confirmed a significant relationship between work posture and Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) (p=0.005 < 0.05), with the proportion of high complaints reaching 83.3% in the very high-risk posture group, while no high complaints were found in the acceptable posture group This proves that there is a statistically significant relationship between the level of work posture risk and the incidence of Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). Therefore, immediate ergonomic interventions such as workstation improvements, routine stretching exercises, and posture education are needed to reduce the prevalence of Musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) and improve work comfort and productivity
