Abstract
Introduction : Dental and oral health issues are among the most common problems worldwide, with dental caries being one of the most frequent issues affecting children. A lack of knowledge is a primary factor contributing to the high prevalence of caries in this age group. Therefore, appropriate educational media that aligns with children's cognitive abilities is essential for effectively increasing their knowledge. One type of educational media that can be used is a flip-flap book. Objective : The objective of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a flip-flap book in improving oral and dental health knowledge among third-grade elementary school students. Methods : This study was conducted among third-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Bratan and SD Negeri Mangkubumen Kidul using a quasi-experimental method. A pretest–posttest control group design was applied, in which the sample consisted of a control group and an intervention group. Result : The results of the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test showed a significance value of < 0.001. These results indicate a significant increase in knowledge in the intervention group after receiving education using flip-flap book media. The results showed that the intervention group’s knowledge significantly improved after receiving educational intervention using a flip-flap book. The intervention group had higher knowledge scores than the control group, which did not receive any educational intervention. Clonclusions : This study concludes that the use of a flip-flap book is effective in improving oral and dental health knowledge among third-grade elementary school students.
