Abstract

Mental health issues among university students have received increasing attention due to rising academic pressure and social demands that contribute to stress, anxiety, and depression. This study focuses on the development of a web-based mental health self-screening application intended for students of Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS), utilizing the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 (DASS-21) instrument and a Mood Tracker feature. The system was developed using the Waterfall model, which includes the stages of requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and maintenance. The application was built using the Laravel framework, Tailwind CSS, and MySQL as the database management system. The main functionalities of the application include completing the DASS-21 questionnaire to assess levels of depression, anxiety, and stress, daily mood recording through the Mood Tracker feature, and the provision of educational articles related to mental health. System evaluation was conducted through Black Box Testing to ensure proper functionality, usability testing using the System Usability Scale (SUS), and system validation by a psychology expert to assess the appropriateness of the DASS-21 implementation. The evaluation results indicate that the application achieved a SUS score of 81, which falls into the Excellent category, and was declared suitable for use as a self-administered early mental health screening tool based on a scientific instrument, while explicitly not intended as a clinical diagnostic tool.
