Abstract

This study attempts to explore the depiction of environmental conservation issues in the film "Petualangan Sherina 2," which centers on the conservation of the Oukal (Bornean Orangutan) and the poaching of orangutans. Using semiotic theory as its framework, this study identifies signs in the film and connects them to the implications of broader environmental issues. This research uses qualitative research methods, data collection using detailed documentation of scenes depicting environmental issues. Analysis was conducted using a Roland Barthes approach that specifically focuses on connotation and denotation, with data validation through triangulation techniques. In addition, this study highlights existing myths surrounding environmental conservation issues, especially when a conservation movement that works to protect and rehabilitate orangutans is exploited by irresponsible individuals to poach orangutans for personal gain. This film, in addition to educating the audience, "Petualangan Sherina 2" conveys an important message to the new generation: the importance of protecting and preserving protected animals, and strictly prohibiting poaching of protected animals such as orangutans.
