Abstract
The Emergency Department (ED) is one of the service units in a hospital that provides immediate treatment for acute conditions, such as sudden illnesses and injuries. These conditions place ED nurses under significant professional responsibility as they are required to be available and ready to serve patients at any time. Job demands such as heavy workloads, time pressure, and the stressful environment of the emergency department exceed the resources available to nurses, putting them at risk of work-related stress. Stress that is not managed properly can have an impact on the physical and mental health of nurses and the quality of nursing care. This study aims to describe the stress levels of nurses in the ER of Surakarta Hospital. This study uses a quantitative descriptive design with a population of 47 ER nurses. The sampling technique used was total sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire covering questions about nurse characteristics and stress levels that had been tested for validity and reliability, then analysed univariately. The results showed that the stress levels of nurses in the emergency department were moderate in 22 people (46.8%). The conclusion of this study is that the majority of nurses experience moderate stress. The results of this study are expected to serve as a basis for hospital management in developing strategies for the prevention and management of work-related stress among nurses, particularly in the emergency department.
