Abstract

Online gambling has become a serious problem, and efforts to stop the spread of illegal gambling platforms have not been effective, posing a high risk of privacy violations and misuse of users' personal data. This study aims to determine and analyze how privacy management is carried out in online gambling behavior among students in Surakarta City. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data was obtained through documentation techniques and in-depth interviews with four male informants who had direct experience in online gambling activities in Surakarta. Data analysis techniques were carried out using a data analysis model consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this study show that the privacy management patterns applied by students involved in online gambling are information control in privacy disclosure, self-regulation in private information management, and risk stigma in private information management. Information control describes the process of selectively setting privacy boundaries and distinguishing to whom information can be shared (family, close friends, or others) and determining communication channels that are considered safe. Self-regulation in private information management demonstrates an individual's ability to actively manage and control strategic decisions regarding the disclosure or concealment of sensitive personal information. Risk stigma indicates that online gambling activities carry high social risks and legal consequences.
