Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of self-control and religiosity on cyberbullying behavior among adolescents. Cyberbullying is a form of aggression or intimidation conducted through digital media, such as social networking platforms, messaging applications, and other online forums. Self-control is considered an essential factor in regulating individual behavior, while religiosity is believed to serve as a moral safeguard in social interactions, including in cyberspace. The research employed a quantitative correlational approach. The participants were adolescents aged 13–22 years who actively used social media, selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used included a self-control scale, a religiosity scale, and a cyberbullying scale. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the aid of SPSS software. The results revealed that simultaneously, self-control and religiosity did not significantly influence cyberbullying behavior (F = 0.659; p = 0.519). However, partial analysis showed that self-control had a significant negative effect on cyberbullying (B = -0.394; p < 0.05), as did religiosity (B = -0.132; p < 0.05). The effective contribution of self-control to cyberbullying was 3.02%, while religiosity contributed 13.65%. This indicates that religiosity plays a stronger role in reducing cyberbullying behavior compared to self-control. These findings highlight the importance of strengthening self-regulation and fostering religious values as preventive measures against cyberbullying among adolescents.
