Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Kompas framed the Russia–Ukraine conflict in its June 6–10, 2022 editions using Pan & Kosicki’s framing analysis model. The five-part news series under study is examined through four framing structures: syntactic, script, thematic, and rhetorical. This research employs a qualitative approach with textual content analysis. The findings reveal that Kompas consistently emphasized humanitarian issues, global solidarity, and civilian adaptation amidst war, while placing minimal focus on military operations or aggressive political agendas. Such framing aligns with the principles of peace journalism, prioritizing coverage of social impacts and peace-building efforts. The results highlight the significant role of media in shaping public perceptions of international conflicts, not only through fact selection but also through the construction of narrative frames.
