Abstract

Boyolali Regency has significant potential in the agriculture and livestock sectors that can be developed into an experience-based agrotourism destination. However, current agrotourism management in the region remains conventional and has not fully provided interactive and educational visitor experiences. This study aims to design an agrotourism area that integrates sustainability principles, education, and active visitor engagement through an experience tourism approach. The methods employed include literature reviews, field surveys, interviews, and site and design concept analyses. The design focuses on Cepogo District, which possesses rich agricultural commodities and high accessibility. The results emphasize the implementation of the four main dimensions of experience tourism entertainment, education, escapist, and esthetic within zones that combine vernacular tropical architecture, educational landscapes, and interactive digital technologies. This agrotourism development is expected to increase youth interest in agriculture, strengthen the local economy, and create a meaningful and sustainable tourist destination. The design outcome presents an integrated agrotourism area that merges educational, recreational, and productive agricultural zones through the application of the four dimensions of experience tourism. The design features a learning farm, local product processing demonstration areas, interactive pathways, and hands-on farming experiences that enable visitors to engage directly in agricultural activities. Buildings and landscapes are designed using vernacular tropical architecture, incorporating local materials and natural ventilation systems to enhance comfort. Overall, the design successfully creates an area that supports education, local economic empowerment, and a more immersive and sustainable tourism experience.
