Abstract

Waste has become one of the most critical issues in Indonesia, affecting public health, environmental quality, and overall well-being. This research was conducted in Makamhaji Village, Kartasura, Sukoharjo, aiming to describe the management of waste banks and to explore the moral values embedded in their practices. The study employed a qualitative approach with a phenomenological method. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that waste banks provide dual benefits: reducing waste accumulation while fostering community awareness of environmental responsibility. Moral values such as honesty, responsibility, cooperation, and social care emerged strongly within community activities. Thus, waste banks serve not only as a tool for environmental management but also as an educational medium to instill moral values aligned with the objectives of Islamic education.
