Abstract
Migrant students may experience various challenges in adapting to new environments, particularly for first-year college students. The presence of social support and emotion regulation can enhance the psychological well- being of migrant students. This study aims to examine the relationship between social support and emotion regulation with psychological well-being among migrant students. The study participants consisted of 175 migrant students from the class of 2024 from 12 faculties at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who were selected using incidental sampling techniques. This study used a quantitative correlational approach with instruments in the form of the Ryff's Psychological Well-Being Scale (RPWB), a social support scale, and an emotional regulation scale that had undergone validity and reliability tests. Data analysis was performed using multiple linear regression techniques. The results showed that social support and emotional regulation simultaneously had a significant effect on psychological well-being (F = 113.369; p = 0.000) with an R value of 0.754. Partially, social support had a significant effect (β = 0.482; p = 0.000), as did emotional regulation (β = 0.376; p = 0.000). The effective contribution indicates that social support contributed 33%, with the dominant category being high, and emotional regulation contributed 23.9%, with the dominant category being high, to psychological well-being. These findings indicate that social support and emotional regulation are important factors in improving the psychological well-being of students living away from home.
