Abstract
This study examines the crucial role of English education in developing students' speaking skills, which are essential for effective communication and overall language mastery. Despite the importance of speaking proficiency, students often face challenges such as limited practice, anxiety, and low motivation, which hinder their ability to communicate effectively in English. The study underscores the pivotal role of English teachers in addressing these difficulties through effective teaching strategies. It highlights that speaking, among the four core English skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening), is critical for daily communication and indicates overall communicative competence. While many students excel in understanding English text, they struggle with oral communication, which is increasingly vital in educational settings. The research focuses on the use of diverse teaching strategies, including role-play, to enhance students' speaking abilities and to align these strategies with students' needs and interests. This study specifically investigates the experiences and perspectives of teachers at SMKN 1 Banyudono, a school chosen for its relevance to the challenges in teaching speaking skills. The findings aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of effective strategies for improving speaking proficiency and address current research gaps regarding teachers' approaches to teaching speaking skills.
