Abstract
This study aims to determine the role of social support and optimism in academic resilience among final-year students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta who are writing their theses. The background of this study is based on the high academic stress experienced by final-year students, so academic resilience is needed to be able to withstand academic pressure. This study used a quantitative approach with multiple linear regression analysis techniques. The research subjects were 145 active students of the 2021 intake from four faculties selected through cluster random sampling technique. The research instruments included an academic resilience scale, a social support scale, and an optimism scale. The results showed a very significant positive role between social support and optimism on academic resilience (F = 56.472; p < 0.001; R² = 0.443). Partially, social support contributed 19.3% and optimism 25% to academic resilience. These findings indicate that the higher the social support and optimism, the higher the academic resilience of final-year students in facing the demands of writing a thesis. This research provides important implications for students, universities, and related parties in efforts to improve academic well-being through strengthening social support and developing an optimistic attitude.
