Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of variations in the particle size of corn cobs and banana leaves on the quality of briquettes using molasses as a binder. The particle size variations used were 12, 60, and 150 mesh for corn cobs and banana leaves. The briquette production process included carbonization at 300°C for 30 minutes, grinding and sieving with varying sizes, mixing the materials with molasses adhesive, molding, and quality testing. The test parameters included moisture content, ash content, volatile matter content, fixed carbon content, and calorific value, which were compared with the SNI 01-6325-2000 standard. The results showed that the particle size of the briquettes had a significant effect on their quality. The 150 mesh particle size produced the highest calorific value of 5,513.11 cal/g, which met the SNI standard, with the lowest moisture content, ash content, and volatile matter content, as well as the highest fixed carbon content among the variations tested. These results indicate that increasing the proportion of corn cobs tends to improve the combustion quality and energy efficiency of briquettes.
