Abstract

The waste problem in Indonesia, particularly in Boyolali Regency, has become increasingly urgent due to the growing volume of household and plastic waste. Of the estimated 300 tons of daily waste, only a portion is transported to the Winong landfill, leaving nearly half unmanaged. This study aims to design an educational waste management tourism area using an educative architectural approach as a medium for learning, recreation, and community empowerment. The research methods employed include field surveys, interviews with stakeholders, as well as literature and precedent studies, resulting in comprehensive data regarding site potential, community needs, and design strategies. The outcome of this study is a conceptual design for an educational tourism area that emphasizes educative aspects in spatial and massing arrangements, featuring facilities such as waste sorting and processing areas, maggot cultivation, composting sites, wastewater treatment plants, and interactive learning spaces. The design also integrates sustainable building materials such as plastic paving, eco-bricks, and plastic-based roof tiles to support environmental sustainability. This concept is expected to raise public awareness of waste management, foster behavioral change among younger generations, and generate local economic value through education- and environment-based tourism.
