Abstract

The conversion of rice fields to non-rice fields is a phenomenon that is increasing due to the development of settlements, industry and infrastructure. This research aims to analyze changes in the distribution of rice fields in Delanggu District from 2017 to 2024, as well as the factors that influence it. The method used in this research is a quantitative and spatial approach with analysis of Sentinel-2A satellite imagery. The data was classified using the supervised classification method and analyzed using change detection techniques to identify patterns of change from rice fields to non-rice fields. In addition, interviews with farmers and policy makers were used to understand the social and economic factors that contributed to these changes. The research results show that the area of rice fields in Delanggu District has decreased from 1,267.37 hectares in 2017 to 1,085.73 hectares in 2024. On the other hand, the area of non-rice fields has increased from 694.72 hectares to 866.95 hectares. The conversion of rice fields to non-rice fields was recorded at 181.80 hectares, while the land converted from non-rice fields to rice fields was only 9.51 hectares. The main factors contributing to this land conversion are population growth, economic pressure on farmers, and spatial planning policies that do not fully support agricultural sustainability. The impacts of this land conversion include decreased food production, reduced water catchment areas, and increased economic pressure for farmers. Therefore, policies are needed to protect agricultural land, increase agricultural productivity, and sustainable spatial planning to maintain a balance between development and food security.
