Abstract
Online gambling has become a growing global phenomenon due to the ease of access and anonymity it offers. One of the main factors influencing individual involvement in online gambling is conformity, which is the tendency for individuals to adjust their attitudes, behaviors, or beliefs to the norms and pressures of social groups. This study aims to analyze the role of peers in encouraging individuals, particularly college students, to engage in online gambling. This study used qualitative descriptive and phenomenological methods, using indepth interviews with six college students aged 20-23 who actively gamble online. They were selected purposively based on certain criteria: currently gambling online, having a supportive social environment, and being willing to act as informants. The results show that peer influence and social media play significant roles in influencing an individual's decision to gamble online. Direct invitations from peers, stories of winning, and exposure to online gambling promotions on social media are the main motivating factors. These findings contribute to educational institutions and policymakers in designing more effective prevention strategies, such as improving digital literacy and conducting awareness campaigns on the risks of online gambling among college students.
