Abstract
This study aims to examine in depth the role of Special Companion Teachers (GPK) in the academic learning of students with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in inclusive schools. The issue explored is is "How the experiences of Special Companion Teachers in supporting the academic learning of students with ADHD in inclusive settings? What challenges do GPKs face in accompanying students with ADHD? What strategies do they implement to provide motivation and academic support for these students?". This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects consist of three GPKs at SD Lazuardi Kamila GCS, selected through purposive sampling based on the criterion of actively assisting ADHD students. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews and documentation, which were then analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings reveal that GPKs perform five main roles: (1) designing and implementing academic learning; (2) establishing collaboration with homeroom teachers, parents, and therapy coordinators; (3) conducting student progress evaluations and reporting; (4) optimizing psychomotor aspects; and (5) identifying and maximizing students’ academic potential. The challenges faced by GPKs include internal challenges such as emotional regulation and psychological pressure, as well as external challenges such as student characteristics and parental expectations. This research provides practical implications for the need for continuous professional training for GPKs and the strengthening of collaborative systems to support the academic learning of ADHD students effectively in an inclusive education setting.
