Abstract

The conversion of rice farming land in Klaten Regency continues to increase due to population growth and infrastructure development, thus becoming a major issue that could threaten food security and food self-sufficiency. The decrease in the area of paddy fields has an impact on the availability of rice production, which is a basic need of the community, especially in agricultural areas such as Klaten, which is known as one of the main rice producers in Central Java. The purpose of this research is to identify the carrying capacity of rice fields in Klaten Regency for the 2019-2023 period and analyze the relationship between rice productivity and the ability of the region to achieve food self-sufficiency. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with a spatial approach. The data used comes from secondary data, such as agricultural land area, harvest area, rice production, number of people, and other supporting data obtained from relevant agencies. The analysis was conducted by calculating population pressure on land based on the Otto Soemarwoto formula and land carrying capacity using the theories of Odum, Christeiler, and Issard. The results of the land carrying capacity research in the 2019-2023 period, Kebonarum Sub-district consistently ranked the highest in land carrying capacity, even reaching 108.61 in 2023. On the other hand, Kemalang sub-district continues to be in the low category with a stagnant DDL value of 0.10-0.11, due to limited paddy fields and mountainous topography. Productivity during the 2019-2023 period, showed a fluctuating trend but generally remained in the high range above 6 tons/ha. 2019 was the year with the highest productivity, while 2020 experienced a drastic decline, after 2020 began to experience productivity recovery and productivity values began to stabilize.
