Abstract
The use of motorcycles in Indonesia continues to increase along with the high public demand for practical vehicles. However, this phenomenon also has a negative impact on air quality due to increased motor vehicle exhaust emissions. To overcome this problem, various motorcycle manufacturers have developed emission control technologies, one of which is the Air Induction System (AIS). This study aims to examine the effect of using without AIS standard AIS and modified AIS use fuel variations on exhaust emission levels on Honda 125 cc motorcycles. The research was conducted through literature studies and field studies, including testing standard and modified AIS with Pertalite and Pertamax fuels against CO, HC, CO2, and O2 exhaust emission levels at the Automotive Light Vehicle Engineering Laboratory of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Surakarta in June 2024. The research procedure includes the preparation of tools and materials, installation of variations, and data collection. The results showed that AIS modifications and fuel variations had an effect on exhaust emissions. The use of Pertalite fuel reduced CO emissions by 5.96% and HC emissions by 546.4 ppm, while Pertamax resulted in a decrease of 4.75% and 545.6 ppm, respectively. In contrast, CO2 and O2 emissions increased, with the use of Pertalite increasing CO2 by 5.11% and O2 by 17.38%, while Pertamax increased CO2 by 5.34% and O2 by 18.07%. This study concludes that modifying the AIS on a 125 cc Honda motorcycle with a 150 cc Honda AIS using fuel variations can effectively reduce exhaust emissions, thus contributing to a cleaner environment and better air quality.
