Abstract

The use of materials that can withstand high temperatures is usually stainless steel and cast steel is often used. Cast steel has the disadvantage of being able to cast lower than cast iron. Although cast iron has a higher castability, it also has a weakness for its thin thickness, its phase structure tends to change from graphite to cementite. Cast iron casting at a thin thickness will result in white cooling so that the phase is difficult to form graphite. Ductile cast iron has a spherical graphite shape. This research is to characterize thin and high temperature ductile cast iron material. The research was conducted by casting gray cast iron and inoculated with FeSiMg plus Nickel. The mold is made ladder with 4 thickness variations. Testing the chemical composition of solid conditions with a spectrometer with ASTM E415- 8 standard for ductile/nodular cast iron. Microstructure testing with Microscope Optic ASTM E407 and hardness with Brinell.
