Abstract

Rapid population growth and urbanization in the Special Capital Region of Jakarta have led to a reduction in green open spaces and increased pressure on the city’s food security. These challenges highlight the need for innovative and sustainable architectural solutions to address land scarcity and dependence on global food distribution chains. The concept of Architectural Design: Resilient and Sustainable Farming Hub in South Jakarta emerges as a response to these issues, employing resilience- and sustainability-oriented architectural approaches within the South Jakarta area. The project integrates technology-based vertical farming systems such as hydroponics, aquaponics, and verticulture with supporting functions including education, a fresh market, and business areas to create a self-sufficient and efficient urban food ecosystem. Green architecture principles are applied through rainwater harvesting, renewable energy utilization, eco-friendly materials, and modular spatial flexibility to enhance building resilience. In addition to contributing to environmental sustainability, the project also aims to foster social and economic empowerment by providing education and creating new job opportunities in the urban agriculture sector. Through this approach, the Farming Hub is expected to serve as a model of adaptive, sustainable, and functional urban farming architecture for the future of Jakarta’s urban landscape.
