Abstract
Background: Kinesio taping is a non-invasive technique used in physiotherapy to support muscle and joint function without restricting movement. The effectiveness and direction of kinesio taping application on improving quadriceps femoris muscle strength remains a subject of debate. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effect of kinesio taping application with two different directional patterns on improving quadriceps femoris muscle strength, and to compare it with a control group that only received leg press exercises without kinesio taping. Methods: The study used an experimental design with a total of 15 participants divided into three groups: control, intervention pattern 1 (KT pattern “I”), and intervention pattern 2 (KT pattern “Y”). Muscle strength measurements were taken using a leg press before and after the intervention. Results: All groups experienced an increase in quadriceps femoris muscle strength. The control group showed the greatest increase (10.4 points), followed by the intervention pattern 2 group (4.4 points) and pattern 1 (3.2 points). Conclusion: The application of kinesio taping in the short term showed an increase in muscle strength, but its effectiveness was lower compared to exercise without taping. The direction of application did not result in significant differences in strength improvement. Kinesio taping is more appropriately used as an auxiliary tool in muscle strengthening exercises rather than as the primary method.
