Abstract
Non-officer TNI personnel face various pressures in their duties that have the potential to cause distress. This study aims to describe the coping strategies used in dealing with this distress. The approach used was qualitative with a descriptive design. The criteria for participants in this study were male, aged 20-25 years, members of the TNI from the NCO or Tamtama ranks, and have completed DIKMA (initial TNI entry education). Five informants were selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analyzed thematically. Data validity was strengthened by source triangulation and member checking. The results of this study indicate that non-officer TNI personnel have two coping strategies: problem-focused, which involves seeking help from seniors; while emotion-focused, which involves solitude, playing games, writing journals, or listening to music. The results show that the majority of informants use emotional coping to relieve stress, while others combine active and emotional strategies. These findings are important as a basis for developing psychological support, especially to manage stress levels for TNI personnel.
