Abstract

This study was motivated by the limited implementation of inclusive education in Indonesia and the need for alternative educational systems that can accommodate children with special needs (CWSN) in non-inclusive schools. The aim of this research is to analyze the alternative education system in a non-inclusive kindergarten that incorporates a sensorimotor approach in accepting and educating CWSN. The study involved seven participants selected through purposive sampling, consisting of three main informants (a teacher, the school principal, and a parent of a child with special needs) and four supporting informants (a psychologist and parents of regular students), all of whom are adults directly involved in early childhood education. This research employed a qualitative case study approach, with data collected through in-depth interviews, non-participant observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using open coding, axial coding, and selective coding following the grounded theory method. The findings reveal that the acceptance process for CWSN is carried out through a trial and observation period; sensorimotor activities are routinely implemented to enhance learning readiness; and the curriculum is developed flexibly without rigid academic standards. Learning evaluations are conducted in a differentiated manner, tailored to each child's abilities. The psychological dynamics among teachers, parents, and children reflect an adaptive and reflective system. This study concludes that non-inclusive schools can implement inclusive practices through a needs-based alternative education system. These findings provide a reference for developing more contextual and responsive educational systems that embrace learner diversity.
