Abstract

Batik is one of the cultural heritages that has become an important part of human life in the city of Solo. Since the time of kingdoms, batik has flourished as a symbol of identity and social status, passed down from generation to generation by creative individuals who preserve this tradition. Solo is known for its diverse and distinctive batik motifs, such as Sidomukti, Sidoasih, and Parang Kusumo, each of which holds deep philosophical meaning for human life. Batik skills are not just a skill, but also a part of the pride and cultural values that are still maintained by the people of Solo to this day. The main goal is to design a batik center in Solo as a place for education and recreation that can attract public interest to visit, in order to increase public interest in batik. With a Neo-vernacular approach as an architectural strategy to create a comfortable spatial experience that is contextual with local culture and supports the physical and psychological well-being of users. The methods used are observation, benchmarking, data analysis, and design concepts. This batik center emphasizes the neo-vernacular style. The application of the neo-vernacular concept will be more focused on the building's style or form as a method to attract more visitors, thereby preserving and generating interest in batik. Despite this, there are several points connected to the vernacular concept or style, including building form and mass, materials and construction, spatial layout and function, natural ventilation and lighting, ornamentation and cultural identity, and sustainability and environmental friendliness.
