Abstract
The research in the drama series Pay Later aims to analyze how media film gives a representation of consumerism in modern society. The drama series Pay Later emphasizes the consumption of goods or services for symbolic value, and social recognition in the spectacle society. The method used in this research is qualitative with data collection through documentation of scenes related to consumerism. This research uses Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis which explains denotation, connotation, and myth. In addition, it uses Jean Baudrillad's theory as a reference to symbolic consumption, and Guy Debord's theory as a reference related to spectacle society. The data in this research is strengthened by triangulation techniques. The results of this study show that the drama series Pay Later represents consumerism in the form of symbolic value consumption and spectacle society consumption through the scenes shown in the series. This research also shows that there is a myth that consumption in this era is done for symbolic purposes only, but not in accordance with the needs of reality.
