Abstract

Muhammadiyah Boarding School is a boarding education institution owned by Muhammadiyah Islamic Organization located in Kendal Regency, Central Java. The problem behind this redesign is that Senior High School of MBS Weleri is still using an old building that was not specifically designed for dormitory needs, resulting in the conversion of several space functions which resulted in increased space requirements. In addition, Senior High School of MBS Weleri also has not applied the concept of Islamic Architecture in accordance with Islamic values and principles. For example, the zoning between private and semi-public zones is still mixed, there is only one kitchen located in the girls' dormitory, and the facade design is monotonous. For this reason, the redesign process aims to provide psychological comfort for users and to increase awareness of Islamic identity among students and the community. The data collection methods used in this redesign process are observation study, literature study, after-occupancy evaluation process, and comparative study. Through the application of Islamic Architecture Concepts in the redesign process, the results obtained are that Senior High School of MBS Weleri will separate and group zoning, add space functions, and change the facade design. The building mass layout is arranged according to the space zone and space function to make it more effective. This redesign is expected to maximize the concept of Islamic Architecture and improve the quality of the learning environment, as well as student life in the school. Analysis of the redesign concept is carried out by considering the principles of Islamic architecture that can reflect an Islamic building characterized by Islamic boarding schools. The result is expected to create a boarding school environment that is optimal, feasible and in accordance with Islamic values.
