Abstract

Transmart Pabelan is part of the PT Trans Retail Indonesia network, serving as a modern shopping center in the Pabelan area of Kartasura. With a One-Stop Shopping concept offering more than 40,000 products, the building was originally designed to meet the comprehensive needs of the community. However, in recent years, there has been a significant decline in the number of visitors, particularly in the shopping area, which now appears deserted and dominated by internal staff activities. To address this issue, an adaptive reuse approach was implemented, transforming Transmart Pabelan into a lifestyle & community hub. The aim is to revitalize the building as an adaptive, functional public space that aligns more closely with the current needs and lifestyle patterns of the community. The design process was carried out using qualitative methods, including observation, data analysis, post-occupancy evaluation, design theme determination, design concept development, and schematic design drawing preparation. The final design adheres to adaptive reuse principles such as structural preservation, spatial flexibility, sustainability, and contextuality. The design results show that the transformation of Transmart Pabelan can optimize the building's functions, create attractive interactive spaces, and increase visitor participation and activities.
