Abstract
The soil of Wiro Village, Bayat District, Klaten is included in the unstable soil. Based on the research the soil sample has moisture content = 7.07%, specific gravity = 2.73, LL = 68.15%, PL = 32.15%, SL = 30.20%, and PI = 36.00%. According to USCS, it belongs to the CH group (high plasticity clay soil) while according to AASHTO it belongs to A-7-5 (medium-poor plasticity clay soil). The poor soil quality in Wiro Village has an impact on the damage to the existing building structures around. In this research, tests were carried out including soil physical properties and CBR tests, the test results showed that the greater the percentage of bamboo leaf ash, the liquid limit, plastic limit, shrinkage limit increased, while the water content, specific gravity, plasticity index and percent passing sieve No. 200 decreased. According to the USCS soil classification system, soil with 0% percentage is categorized as CH (high plasticity clay), while soil with 2%, 4%, 6% percentage of bamboo leaf ash is categorized as MH (high plasticity silt). The compaction test results showed that the maximum dry volume weight increased, while the optimum moisture content decreased as the percentage of bamboo leaf ash mixture increased. The largest γdmax weight occurred at 6% bamboo leaf ash mixture which was 1.76 gr/cm3. The smallest optimum moisture content was obtained from the 6% bamboo leaf ash mixture, which was 11.91%. The highest CBR value test results occurred at a mixture percentage of 6%, namely 7.136%.
