Abstract

Boyolali Regency is a region in Central Java experiencing relatively rapid economic growth, supported by the industrial, agricultural, and trade sectors. Despite its considerable potential, as of 2025, Boyolali still does not have a modern shopping center (mall), even though plans for its development have existed since 2018. With a population of over one million people and an increasing level of purchasing power, the presence of a shopping mall is highly anticipated as a means to fulfill daily needs and support a modern lifestyle. Moreover, Boyolali’s tourism potential, which is rich in natural attractions, could be further strengthened through the establishment of a shopping center as a complementary tourism facility. The proposed shopping mall in Boyolali is designed using a contextual architectural approach, integrating physical and socio-cultural aspects of the local environment to ensure harmony with the surrounding area and the character of the community. The objective of this design is to create a shopping center that is not only functional but also reflects local identity and supports the region’s economic and tourism development.
