Abstract

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects communication, social interaction, and behavior. The increasing number of individuals with autism, including in Surakarta, has not been matched by the availability of appropriate therapy and vocational training facilities. The Autis Harmony Foundation in Surakarta currently provides only educational services without therapy or post-school skill training facilities, highlighting the need for an integrated therapy and training center. The design of the Autis Harmony Therapy and Training Center adopts the concept of Autism-Friendly Architecture, which emphasizes creating a safe, comfortable environment that responds to the sensory, cognitive, and emotional needs of children with autism. The aim is to provide facilities that support independence and the development of autistic children’s potential in the fields of technology, arts, and technical skills. The design methods include literature review, field observation, interviews, documentation, and precedent studies. The design outcome includes the provision of facilities and spatial standards specifically tailored to support various types of therapy and training needed by children with autism. Each space is adapted to its function and the sensory needs of autistic children through the application of autism-friendly principles. The design aims to create an adaptive, comfortable environment that supports children’s holistic development in a calm and inclusive atmosphere.
