Abstract

Adolescents are in a transitional period toward adulthood, marked by physical, emotional, and social changes, making them vulnerable to risky behaviors such as premarital sex. Rates of teenage pregnancy and early marriage continue to rise in Indonesia, including in Central Java and Surakarta. Most cases are triggered by pregnancies outside of marriage. This condition highlights the need for appropriate reproductive health education, one of which can be delivered through interactive methods like Index Card Match (ICM) to help adolescents make healthy and responsible decisions. To evaluate the effect of education using the Index Card Match method on adolescents' knowledge in the context of premarital sex prevention at SMK Negeri 4 Surakarta. This study employed a quantitative research method with a pre-experimental design using the one-group pretest-posttest approach. The participants consisted of 57 female students from SMK Negeri 4 Surakarta, selected through purposive sampling. Knowledge levels were measured before and after the educational intervention using a questionnaire instrument, and the data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. Before the intervention, 75.4% of the female students showed a low level of knowledge. After receiving education using the ICM method, 86% of the respondents showed an improvement to the good category. Statistical testing showed a p-value < 0.05, indicating a significant difference before and after the intervention. Learning using the Index Card Match method has a significant effect on enhancing adolescents' knowledge about premarital sex prevention. Therefore, this method is suitable to be used as a strategy for active learning in reproductive health education in schools.
