Abstract

The growing number of Muslim youth in Indonesia, particularly in the city of Surakarta, highlights the urgent need for a community space that supports their religious, educational, and social activities. Currently, public facilities that accommodate the specific needs of Muslim youth in Surakarta are still very limited. Therefore, the design of the Surakarta Islamic Youth Community Center aims to create an adaptive, inclusive, and user-experience-oriented community space based on the Human-Centered Design approach. This project employs a qualitative method, utilizing primary data collection through field observations and user needs surveys, as well as secondary data collection through literature studies related to Islamic community spaces and Human-Centered Design principles. The analysis of user needs, problem identification, and the formulation of design concepts were carried out to produce a design that is responsive to the physiological, psychological, and social needs of the users. The design concept focuses on the principles of Human-Centered Design, strengthened by Islamic values through the application of geometric elements, the spatial separation principle based on adab interaction (hijab), and the integration of sustainability concepts as a form of rahmatan lil alamin implementation. The resulting design is expected to establish a community center that is not only functional and comfortable but also contextually reflects Islamic values.
