Abstract
The existence of the internet produces virtual communication where the exchange of messages and interactions are established through cyberspace. This phenomenon will create a new space for someone to interact freely. One of them is the tendency of individuals who are unable to reveal their true identity in real life, so they express it through the angry community on social media X. This study aims to understand how users who are members of a community form their identity through social media. The theory used is George Herbert Mead's symbolic interaction theory with the concept of self. Using a qualitative research method with a phenomenological approach. The sampling technique was carried out using purposive sampling, with the criteria of an age range of 20-25 years, having uploaded a post to the community and received feedback from other members, and the characteristics of the account using an anonymous account or not reflecting the real identity. The results of this study indicate that informants who are members of the angry community form their virtual identity differently 2 from the real world. It is formed through social interaction where "I" allows spontaneous expression and emotion while "Me" regulates social control over that expression. Interaction with community members, plays a role in the formation and strengthening of identity through the internalization of norms and social validation.
