Abstract

Karanganyar Regency has high cultural and historical wealth, reflected in the existence of sites such as Cetho Temple, Sukuh Temple, Astana Giribangun, and Astana Mangadeg. However, the potential of cultural tourism has not been fully utilized optimally due to limited infrastructure, accessibility, and lack of integrated management. This study aims to analyze the spatial distribution and strategic factors in the development of cultural tourism using the Geographic Information System (GIS) approach and SWOT analysis. Spatial data was analyzed using the Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN) method to identify the distribution pattern of cultural tourism locations, while interviews with managers and visitors were used in SWOT analysis to identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats faced. The results show that the distribution of cultural tourism sites in Karanganyar is dispersed and statistically significant, providing challenges in destination integration but at the same time opening up opportunities for spiritual and history-based thematic tourism concepts. Suggested development strategies include a community-based approach, infrastructure improvements, and utilization of digital technology. This research confirms the importance of spatial planning and strategic management in supporting the sustainability of cultural tourism in Karanganyar.
