Abstract

The issue of sexual violence against women and children has become more prevalent recently. Sexual violence in boarding school institutions has begun to be revealed. Online media is one of the platforms that contributed to reporting this case. However, each media has an ideology that is different from one another. This causes the framing chosen to be different according to the ideology adopted by the media. The purpose of this research is to find out how the framing taken by Detik.com and Republika.co.id related to the case of sexual violence of 41 female students in East Lombok by two boarding school leaders. The data collection technique used documentation studies. Data analysis was carried out using the Robert N Entman method by paying attention to four elements, including are: defining the problem (define problem), estimating the source of the problem (diagnose cause), making moral decisions (make moral judgement), and problem solving (treatment recommendation). The result of the research is that the striking difference between Detik.com and Republika.co.id media was the delivery of the chronology of the news content. Detik.com was very straightforward, detailed, and focused on the legal perspective when explaining the chronology. However, its presentation tended to be vulgar and created negative stigma about Islamic boardingschool. Meanwhile, Republika.co.id attempted to explain the chronology of the news in accordance with principles of religious moderation and attempted to explain the chronology without creating a negative stigmaabout Islamic boardingschool.
