Abstract
This study aims to examine the role of loneliness and social skills on celebrity worship behavior in fans of talent search graduates in Indonesia. Celebrity worship itself is defined as an excessive attraction to celebrities that forms parasocial relationships. The subjects of this study consisted of 149 respondents aged 18-25 years who were fans of artists who graduated from talent search shows for at least 1 year. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. Data were collected through an online questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that loneliness and social skills simultaneously played a significant role in celebrity worship (p < 0.05). While partially, loneliness plays a significant positive role on celebrity worship (p = 0.013), while social skills also show a significant positive role (p = 0.001). These findings suggest that individuals who feel lonely as well as those with high social skills have a tendency to engage in celebrity worship. This study contributes to the development of psychological interventions to assist individuals in managing parasocial relationships in a healthier manner.
