Abstract

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic degenerative disease with high prevalence, especially in the elderly, characterized by damage to joint cartilage that causes pain, stiffness, and functional limitations. OA management focuses on pain control, reducing delivery damage, and improving function and quality of life. The combination of knee flexion and quadriceps extension range of motion (LGS) exercises has been identified as a potential intervention to reduce pain and improve functional activity in OA patients. Purpose: This study aims to determine the effect of the combination of knee flexion and quadriceps extension LGS exercises on the functional activity of osteoarthritis patients, and to compare their effectiveness in improving functional activity and reducing pain complaints. Methodology: This study used a One Group pretest-posttest strategy in a quasi-experimental design. The intervention was carried out three times a week for four weeks. Pain data were measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) and functional activity with the WOMAC questionnaire. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank test. Types of exercises used for Knee Flexion: Heel Slide with rubberband, Long Arc Quad, Heel Strike. and the form of quadriceps stretching exercises performed were: Standing Quad Stretch, Sidelying Quad Stretch, Pronelying Quad Stretch with rubberband Results: Before the intervention, 100% of respondents reported moderate pain. After being given a combination of exercise intervention, there was a significant improvement: 53.3% of respondents experienced mild pain, 26.7% still had moderate pain, and 20.0% did not feel any pain at all. No respondents experienced severe pain after the intervention, indicating an improvement after giving the exercise. Conclusion: The combination of knee flexion LGS exercises with quadriceps stretching is effective in improving the functional activity of osteoarthritis patients and can be recommended as the main intervention modality in a rehabilitation program.
