Abstract

Indonesia is endowed with abundant natural fiber resources, offering a wide variety of natural fibers that can be utilized for composite material production. One of the fibers used is natural fiber derived from five types of banana pseudostems found in Indonesia. Composites are materials composed of two or more constituent materials with distinct characteristics and properties, both physically and chemically. To produce strong composite materials, polyester resin Yukalac 157 BQTN-EX is added to banana pseudostem fibers using the hand lay-up method, resulting in composites with strong and high-quality mechanical properties. The banana pseudostem fibers are treated by soaking them in a 2% NaOH solution for 2 hours, followed by drying. This study employs tensile testing to determine the strength and elasticity modulus of the composite material. Five variations in the ratios of the five types of banana pseudostem fibers are tested in combination with the polyester resin.
