Abstract
Grobogan Regency is one of the national corn production centers with a continuously increasing production trend. In 2011, production was recorded at 502,214 tons and increased to 700,941 tons in 2015. Data from the National Food Agency (BPN) in 2019 noted that Grobogan contributed 29.3% of corn production in Central Java and 2.8% of total national production, thus playing a strategic role in the corn farming sector in Indonesia. In corn cultivation, post-harvest processing is quite crucial to ensure optimal results. Processes such as picking, drying, shelling, and sales are still largely carried out conventionally, which require a long time and greater labor. Although corn shellers are available, both manual, electric, and fuel-powered, their use still faces obstacles such as high prices, high power consumption, environmental impact, and high operational costs. Therefore, this study aims to develop a portable corn sheller with a hybrid energy system (AC–DC), which allows the tool to be operated using two power sources, namely electricity from a power supply (AC) and a battery (DC). With this system, the tool can be used flexibly both in processing houses with electricity or directly in fields without electricity, because it can use batteries (DC). This system is also designed so that the battery can remain charged when the tool is used in AC mode. Test results show that speed affects corn shelling productivity, where the higher the speed, the greater the shelling results obtained. This tool has three speed modes that can be adjusted to user needs. The development results show that this tool is able to simplify the shelling process, reduce energy consumption, is more environmentally friendly, and reduces operational costs, thereby increasing post-harvest processing productivity in various field conditions.
