Abstract
Research on material characterization continues to develop, including studies on AISI 410 stainless steel. This study aims to analyze the microstructure and hardness of AISI 410 steel after annealing, and to evaluate the effect of pressure during Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD) coating on layer thickness, microstructure, and material hardness. The annealing process was conducted at 900°C for 30 minutes, followed by the deposition of a diamond-like carbon (DLC) layer using the PCVD method at a pressure of 1.6 mbar. Microstructure characterization and coating thickness measurements were carried out using optical microscopy and Scanning Electron Microscope – Energy Dispersive X-Ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS), while hardness testing was performed using the Rockwell method. SEM-EDS observations on the annealed specimens revealed the presence of two dominant phases: pearlite and ferrite. The thickness of the DLC layer formed at 1.6 mbar pressure reached 18.23 µm. Furthermore, the hardness test showed a significant increase after the PCVD process, with an average hardness value of 57.60 HRC.
