Abstract

The rapid development of technology has brought many innovations into human life, one of which is the ease of online shopping through e-commerce platforms. Shopee, one of the largest e-commerce platforms in Indonesia, offers the Shopee PayLater feature, which allows consumers to make purchases on credit with a "Buy Now, Pay Later" system. This service is managed by PT. Commerce Finance and is registered and supervised by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). While it facilitates transactions, the use of Shopee PayLater involves legal agreements that regulate the rights and obligations of the parties involved, including the service provider, the lender, and the consumers. This study aims to analyze the implementation of online credit agreements through Shopee PayLater at PT. Shopee Indonesia, Surakarta branch. The main focus of this research is to examine the execution of online credit agreements, covering the rights and obligations of the parties involved and the potential legal risks that may arise, such as delayed payments leading to fines and the recording of poor credit history in the OJK's Financial Information Service System (SLIK). The study also examines how this technology-based payment system affects consumer financial behavior and the legal protection offered to Shopee PayLater users in case of transaction issues or defaults. The findings of this study are expected to provide an understanding of the implementation of online credit agreements, the legal consequences of defaults, and the measures needed to ensure consumer protection in technology-based financing systems. This research also highlights the importance of consumers understanding the agreements they enter into in order to avoid risks that may harm the involved parties in online credit transactions.
