Abstract
The installation of nonlinear loads such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) in industrial power distribution systems often causes significant harmonic distortion. These distortions can cause a decrease in power quality, increased power losses, overheating of neutral conductors and transformers, and even damage to the insulation of electrical equipment. One of the efforts to overcome this problem is to design and install harmonic filters. This research aims to analyze the impact of harmonics due to nonlinear loads and design a single tuned filter as an effort to mitigate harmonic distortion in the distribution system at PT Indo Acidatama Tbk. The research methods include direct observation of the distribution system at the location, technical data collection, and simulation using ETAP Power Station 19.1 software. Analysis was conducted to identify the points with the highest harmonic distortion, determine the dominant harmonic order, and calculate the required filter components. The filter is then designed and simulated to see its effect on power quality parameters, specifically Total Harmonic Distortion Voltage (THDv) and Total Harmonic Distortion Current (THDi). The simulation results show that the application of a single tuned filter on the bus with the highest distortion level provides significant results. At Basuki Bus, the THDv value of 6.03% and THDi of 26.38% decreased to 0.87% and 13.86%. On the Alstom 1 Boiler Bus, the THDv value of 6.07% and THDi of 34.35% decreased to 1.09% and 11.28%. On the Degester Bus, THDv of 6.23% and THDi of 46.61% were successfully reduced to 1.92% and 12.4%. In addition, the filter installation also reduced power losses from 70.6 kW and 218.4 kVAR to 67.6 kW and 207.7 kVAR.
