Abstract

In terms of Body Mass Index (BMI), analyze the level of physical fitness of students at SMP Negeri 1 Bendosari, and determine the relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and physical fitness levels. The population was students at SMP Negeri 1 Bendosari and the sample in this study was 80 students in grade VIII of SMP Negeri 1 Bendosari with a sampling technique of purposive sampling. The instrument used was the 2022 Nusantara Student Fitness Test (TKPN) from the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The data analysis used was correlation analysis using SPSS 25.0 software. The results of this study showed that for the group of students with a normal Body Mass Index (BMI) category, there were 22 people. Data on the physical fitness of students at SMP Negeri 1 Bendosari, it is known that most students have a level of physical fitness in the moderate category, with the dominant value being in the range of 2.00 to 2.60. There is a significant negative relationship between Body Mass Index (BMI) and the level of physical fitness of students. The Spearman correlation coefficient (ρ) value is -0.418 with a significance level of p = 0.000 (<0.01). This negative correlation means that the higher a student's BMI, the lower their physical fitness level tends to be. There is a significant difference in the level of physical fitness of students in various categories of Body Mass Index (BMI), as evidenced by the diagram results showing that students with a normal BMI category have the highest average percentage of physical fitness, which is 29.3%, indicating that individuals with ideal body weight tend to have better levels of physical fitness. Furthermore, the underweight category is in second place with a percentage of 26.1%, indicating that even though body weight is below normal, the level of physical fitness can still be maintained relatively well. The obesity category is in third place with 22.8%, followed by the overweight category with the lowest percentage of 21.7%.
