Abstract
This study aims to design and build a pico-hydro power plant as an alternative source of environmentally friendly electrical energy. This study also includes testing for lighting needs using several main components, namely a pressure gauge, Pelton type turbine, DC generator, avometer, and lamps. Because it uses river flow as the driving force, a buzzer is added here as an indicator if there is an obstacle in the water flow that causes a decrease in voltage. The test was carried out by measuring the generator output voltage both in no-load and load conditions, using a multi-level load, namely four 3-watt DC lamps. The test results show that in no-load conditions, the maximum voltage produced is 10 Volts. Meanwhile, in the test with a load, the maximum voltage is 8,7 Volts when supplying four 3-watt DC lamps that are brightly lit. This study proves that water flow has a significant effect on the performance of turbines and generators in generating electrical energy.
