Abstract
Introduction: Full edentulous is a state of complete tooth loss from the socket. It can be caused by age, periodontal disease, bad habits and trauma. Full edentulous can disrupt the relationship between mandibular function and structure. As individuals grow older, there is often a decline in muscle and bone density which can lead to alterations in the height of the mandibular ramus. Traditionally, the height of the ramus can be evaluated through imaging techniques. Panoramic radiography serves as a widely accepted method for auxiliary examination when formulating a diagnosis and planning treatment. This type of radiograph offers images that represent facial components, encompassing both the maxilla and mandible, along with surrounding structures. Objective: to determine the difference in mandibular ramus height in fully edentulous patients based on male and female gender through panoramic radiographic assessment. Methods: Cross-sectional observational study research, on panoramic radiographs of patients at Soelastri General Hospital during the period March 2022-October 2024. Samples were taken from data on full edentulous patients based on male and female gender with those who met the inclusion criteria. Data were analyzed using the Independent Sample T-test between full edentulous patients based on male and female gender through panoramic radiograph assessment. Results: A total of 42 patients' panoramic radiograph data, including 27 (64.28%) males and 17 (35.72%) females. The average height of the mandibular ramus in men on the right side is 22.48 mm and left 21.96 mm while in women on the right side is 18.72 mm and left 18.01 mm. The results of the Independent Sample T-test test showed a significance value of <0.001 (<0.05). Conclusion: Based on this study, it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between full edentulous patients based on male and female gender through panoramic radiography assessment.
