Abstract
This thesis aims to analyze the grammatical and lexical cohesion devices of the 2024 election inquiry rights discourse on Kompas.com and describe the application of grammatical and lexical cohesion devices as teaching materials for news texts. This study is classified into the qualitative descriptive category that analyzes data from the 2024 election inquiry rights discourse published on the Kompas.com website. The grammatical and lexical cohesion devices in the 2024 election inquiry rights discourse and its application as teaching materials for news texts are used as the focus of this study. The primary data used contain sentences in the discourse on Kompas.com and teacher statements related to news text teaching materials. On the other hand, secondary data comes from articles and books that are related to discourse analysis and cohesion. The analysis of the 2024 election inquiry rights discourse contains listening, note-taking, and interview techniques, which are a number of techniques used to collect data in this study. For data analysis, the markup reading method and the distribution method with the replace and insert techniques were used. The results of the study found grammatical cohesion, namely reference, substitution, ellipsis, and conjunction. Lexical cohesion was also found, namely repetition, synonymy, antonymy, collocation, hyponymy, and equivalence. The conclusion of this study is that Kompas.com is good at writing discourse. The results of the cohesion study can be used as teaching materials for news texts with Learning Achievements of Phase D of the Independent Curriculum for class VII and Learning Objectives to identify forms of cohesion.
