Abstract

Introduction: Most fast-food consumers were between the ages of 15 and 34. Nutrition knowledge and screen time were among the factors influencing fast-food consumption frequency. In 2020, 85.7% of teenagers in Surakarta consumed fast food every day. Objective: The objective of the study is to analyze the relationship between nutrition knowledge and screen time to fast-food consumption frequency by the students of the Law Faculty, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) Method: This research was an observational analytical cross-sectional study. The study lasted two months online and examined the students of the Law Faculty, UMS. It involved 129 respondents using a simple random sampling technique. Gathering the data of nutrition knowledge, screen time, and fast-food consumption frequency employed questionnaires and Food Frequency Questionnaires via Google Forms. Data analysis used the Spearman Rank test with p<0.05. Result: Based on this study, nutrition knowledge had an average score of 67.36 and 9% of respondents were lack of it. The average screen time was 485 minutes/day with 48.1% of respondents having high screen time and the fast-food consumption frequency’s average score was 179 with 39.5% of respondents in the high fast-food frequency category. There was no relationship between nutrition knowledge and fast-food consumption frequency with a value of p=0.887. Also, there was no relationship between screen time and fast-food consumption frequency with a value of p=0.120. Conclusion: There was no relationship between nutrition knowledge and screen time to fast food consumption frequency by the students of the Law Faculty, UMS.
