Abstract

This research is motivated by the importance of the principal's efforts in improving the spiritual competence of teachers so that there is no gap between the abilities of teachers and students. Because in practice, the ability to read and memorize the Qur'an of teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta is the same as the students or even better than the students. This is done so that all teachers in the school have better abilities, because after all teachers are role models for students. In this study, the main topic is related to the Principal's Efforts in Improving the Spiritual Competence of Teachers and the Supporting and Inhibiting Factors of the Principal's Efforts in Improving the Spiritual Competence of Teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta. This research is a field research using a qualitative phenomenological approach. Data sources come from the principal and teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta, as well as additional data from journals and documents. Data collection was carried out using interviews, observations, and document studies that were analyzed through data reduction, data presentation and drawing conclusions. The data checking process uses triangulation techniques, techniques, and sources. The results of the study indicate that the Principal's Efforts in Improving the Spiritual Competence of Teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta have been successful where teachers who initially did not memorize juz 30 became familiar with hearing the letters and memorized 2 to 3 long letters in juz 30. In addition, it makes the teacher's reading of the Qur'an clearer and more correct in pronunciation, and strengthens the ties of friendship and gets religious values conveyed in the activities. The Supporting Factors for the Principal's Efforts in Improving the Spiritual Competence of Teachers at SMP Muhammadiyah 5 Surakarta are good coordination between the principal and teachers, and the enthusiasm of the teachers. While the inhibiting factors are the teacher's background, and the busyness of class administration.
